Do you have door locks that need replacing? Are you thinking of upgrading your home or office’s security with a high-tech yet cost-effective option? If your answer is yes, then electric door strikes are just what you need.
Electric door strikes are electrically-powered devices that are widely used for managing access to doors. This electronic device will give you more control over your doors and your home’s security. Despite the technology they have, electrical door strikes are quite simple. You can even install these devices yourself if you have the know-how. They can easily replace your existing fixed strike plate and are available in standard measurements, so you do not need to do extra drilling in order to install them.
How Electric Door Strikes Work?
Electric door strikes are similar to their fixed counterparts. They allow you to close the door via their ramped surfaces that lock the latches. However, you can pivot their ramped surfaces out of the way of the latches if you need – this is their main function that sets them apart from fixed door strikes. So you don’t have to retract the latch by turning the knobs. This is convenient particularly if both of your hands are occupied. This feature is also helpful when you are busy and cannot manually open the door yourself. Electrical door strikes allow you to enjoy these features without purchasing expensive and complicated security systems.
Additional Configurations of Electric Door Strikes
Electrical strikes offer two main configurations to provide convenience. These features will definitely increase the security in your home or office and it will be a nice upgrade as fixed strikes do not have these features. Fail-locked feature is the first configuration that uses electricity on the strike. What this means is that even if the power supply is disconnected, you will still be able to open your door. However, it will not automatically open the door, you will have to turn the knob. The second configuration is a fail-safe feature, which works just like a magnetic lock and uses direct current to lock the door. As compared to the first configuration, this configuration will simply open your door in case of a power failure and all you will need to do is push or pull the door.
Safe and Convenient
Electric door strikes make a buzzing sound; it is actually the sound of the alternating current. You don’t have to worry about being electrocuted because it is completely safe. Some electric door strikes have built-in buzzers that allow people outside the door know that the door is now opened and they may enter. There are some electrical strikes that have buzzers that work like an alarm, informing people that the door is left open. Some modern electric door strikes offer advanced security features to give you more control.
